For a Telluride or Palisade oil leak, ask a technician to identify the leak source before assuming engine failure. The oil-filter housing seal or gasket has its own manufacturer programs. Kia WTY045 and Hyundai Z15 are separate programs; the dealer must check the VIN and current coverage terms.

Oil-filter housing leak or another oil leak?

Photograph the visible oil or ground stain from a safe position, record the mileage and date, and note any recent oil-change or repair visit. Ask the technician to name the component on the repair order. “Oil leak” is too broad to establish that the housing gasket or seal is responsible.

Kia’s bulletin specifically distinguishes a housing leak from a leak originating elsewhere. Avoid ordering a repair part or agreeing to an engine-replacement explanation until the diagnosis identifies the source. If an oil-pressure warning appears or oil loss is substantial, stop in a safe place and arrange professional assistance.

The Kia and Hyundai programs to ask about

Manufacturer documents reviewed October 2, 2026
Vehicle Program and published scope
Kia Telluride WTY045 / ENG266: certain 2020–2025 Tellurides built January 9, 2019–June 12, 2025. The bulletin describes oil-filter housing gasket coverage up to 15 years or 180,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from first service. Read Kia’s bulletin on NHTSA.
Hyundai Palisade Z15 / 26-EM-012H: certain 2020–2025 Palisades built April 10, 2019–June 10, 2025. Hyundai describes housing-seal coverage up to 15 years or 180,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from original delivery or first use. Read Hyundai’s bulletin on NHTSA.

Those ranges are screening information, not individual approval. Hyundai’s Z15 launch notice directs dealers to check VIN applicability in their vehicle system. Ask your Kia dealer to check WTY045 coverage for your VIN, and your Hyundai dealer to check Z15. These are warranty extensions for the identified condition, not blanket coverage for every oil leak or every engine component.

What to bring to the dealer

  1. Your VIN, current mileage, and vehicle year.
  2. A dated description of when the oil was first noticed.
  3. Available photos, oil-change receipts, and prior repair orders.
  4. The diagnosed leak source, if another shop inspected it.
  5. Invoices and payment records if a repair was already completed.

Ask: “Can you confirm whether this VIN is included in WTY045 or Z15, and whether the diagnosed leak is the condition described in that program?” Before approving work, clarify diagnostic charges and request a written estimate if coverage is declined.

Already paid for an oil-leak repair?

Keep the itemized invoice, proof of payment, date, mileage, and description of the repaired component. Ask the manufacturer whether it has a current reimbursement process for your situation and what documents or deadlines apply. A previous repair payment alone does not establish reimbursement eligibility.

Telluride and Palisade oil-leak questions

Is WTY045 the same program as Hyundai Z15?

No. They are separate manufacturer programs with their own VIN checks and documents.

Does an oil leak mean the engine must be replaced?

Not necessarily. The cited programs concern the oil-filter housing gasket or seal. A technician must identify the actual leak and any other damage.

Does a bulletin prove my vehicle is eligible?

No. Have the dealer confirm your VIN, mileage, age, diagnosis, and current program terms.

Should I use an oil-drain repair plug for this leak?

A housing seal or gasket and an oil-pan drain thread are different components. Match a repair to the diagnosed source rather than choosing a part from the symptom alone.
